Area Information : Camps Bay

By far one of the most illustrious and famous suburbs in Cape Town, Camps Bay is home to some of the most luxurious houses and apartments to be found anywhere in South Africa.  The literal playground of the rich and famous, the properties offer a unique perspective on the panoramic ocean views, as many are carved into the cliff face, with parking available on the roof.  While prices are generally placed in the upper echelon, there are more reasonably priced properties available as you move further away from the beachfront.

Nestled between three mountain peaks, namely Lion’s Head, Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles, Camps Bay is without a doubt one of the most magnificent bays in the world, overlooking the endless vista of the awe-inspiring Atlantic Ocean.  Named after Frederick Ernst Von Kamptz, who lived on the original Ravensteyn farm during the 1700s, this suburb borders a number of other areas, including the affluent Clifton and the more eclectic Sea Point.  Those who buy property here are certainly investing in the ultimate in luxury lifestyles and have access to world renowned beaches and restaurants, as well as a number of excellent shopping centres, with the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront just a short drive away.

As part of the Atlantic Seaboard, Camps Bay also boasts an incredible scenic drive along Chapman’s Peak.  Aside from the magnificent views, the road is a masterpiece of engineering and has a part literally carved into the rock face.  There are a number of historical monuments found in the area, including the Old Canon opposite the Camps Bay High School and the Rotunda, which now forms part of the Table Bay Hotel and was once used for dancing, roller skating, sporting events and silent movie shows in the 1900s.  With such a wealth of history and natural beauty, it’s no wonder that the suburb has developed into one of the most opulent and lavish in the country, with properties for sale being some of the most sought-after in the world.
